Often I just look at the score and not the screen. When I'm inputting a job from a pencil score, I use Speedy and go really fast. Of course, I can remember back in the day, when the auto-save would take several seconds to execute, locking up the system during that time.
I don't recall seeing those folders there before although maybe they are crash recovery folders or something. Probably unrelated, but I did notice when I was clearing out AppData/Local/Temp last night there were a bunch of folders titled FINxxxx that I assume were created by Finale in addition to the regular FINxxxx.tmp files. I've probably been working in Fin2014 18 of the last 24 hours and that was the only time I had a file that gave me the enigma error when trying to save.

I don't use auto-save as it used to drive me crazy. one other thought - maybe you could try saving in 2012 format? There's also the old File Maintenance command to experiment with. Since you've already copied the music out, it might be worth trying to erase everything in the document to see if it makes a difference. Out of curiosity, was this document created in 2014? asv files (which you'd want to make a copy of right away), you might also look through the Undo/Redo history and try stepping back a ways to see if you can save from an earlier point. which, logically, must make conducting a form of insanity. This appears to be file specific, but obviously I can't post the file since it won't save. I certainly won't start any new jobs on it. Pretty nervous about using 2014 now though. I can also open an new template, copy everything, and plunk it into that file which saves fine so it doesn't seem to be caused by an individual element in the file. The file is still open, so I've exported it as an XML for safety. I can't even manually make a copy of it in Windows Explorer since Finale deleted the file. I've tried "Save as" as well, but I can't save this file. Even worse when I go to the folder containing the file, the file is gone!!! Finale must delete the old file or something before saving the new one, but here it deleted the old and then couldn't save a new one. I was working on a file and hit save (CTRL-S) just as I had a zillion times before and all of a sudden I get an error message "Enigma error -200" and the file can't save.
